Ian Nepomniachtchi Starts Tata Steel Masters with Win

The first games of the 81st Tata Steel Chess Tournament were played in Wijk aan Zee on January 12. In the Masters Tournament, Ian Nepomniachtchi defeated Anish Giri, Viswanathan Anand bested Jorden Van Foreest, while the games Ding Liren - Carlsen, Fedoseev - Rapport, Radjabov - Kramnik, Vidit - Duda, and Shankland - Mamedyarov were drawn.

3-12. Magnus Carlsen, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Vladimir Kramnik, Teimour Radjabov, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Richard Rapport, Samuel Shankland, Vladimir Fedoseev, Santosh Vidit, Ding Liren - 0.5
13-14. Anish Giri, Jorden Van Foreest - 0.

Carlsen - Nepomniachtchi, Kramnik - Giri, Mamedyarov - Radjabov, Rapport - Shankland, Anand - Fedoseev, Duda - Van Foreest, Ding Liren - Vidit.

In the Tata Steel Challengers, Anton Korobov, Erwin l'Ami, Evgeny Bareev, and Maksim Chigaev won their 1st round games.
