Drawing of Lots for Nutcracker-2018 Conducted

Generation tournament to be held in Moscow on December 17-22.

The Nutcracker traditional team tournament will take place in the Central Chess Club in Moscow on December 17-22, 2018. 

The competition consists of two separate team events: Generations tournament (KINGS and PRINCES teams) and Boys and girls’ tournament (boys 11–12 years, girls 16–18 years).

The drawing of lots was conducted. The participants will have the following starting numbers:

“Kings”:

The first round, which will be played on December 17, will see the following games:


"Kings" - "Princes":

Gelfand - Paravyan, Najer - Sarana, Esipenko - Leko, Lomasov - Short.

Murzin - Obolentseva, Makoveev - Dimitrova, Goltseva - Safin, Bulatova - Grebnev.

Chess tournaments are held in accordance with the FIDE rules in two disciplines: standard chess (Scheveningen system, 4 rounds) and rapid chess (Scheveningen system, 8 rounds).

Team rankings are determined by the total number of points accumulated by all team players in two disciplines: standard chess and rapid chess. Standard chess: players are awarded 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a lost game. Rapid chess: players are awarded 1 point for a win, 0.5 point for a tie and 0 points for a lost game.

A technical opening ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m. on December 17 (hereinafter Moscow time). 

The match days: December 17-20 – standard chess, December 21-22 – rapid chess. All rounds begin at 3 p.m. 

The closing ceremony will be held at 8 p.m. on December 22. The results of the Best Chess Photography 2018 Contest, carried out by the Russian Chess Federation, will be announced there as well.
