Russian National Teams Triumphantly Arrived in Moscow From Khanty-Mansiysk

At the airport they were met by chess fans and journalists.

On June 27, the Russian national teams arrived in Moscow from Khanty-Mansiysk, where they had won gold and silver medals of the World Team Championships. At the Sheremetyevo Airport, they were met chess fans and Mass Media representatives, including 7 federal TV channels. The players and coaches answered journalists’ questions and gave autographs. 

World Team Championships took place in Khanty-Mansiysk on June 16-26. 10 teams competed both in the open and women’s sections. Team composition: 4 players plus 1 reserve and 1 captain.

Open section: Russia, China, Ukraine, the USA, Poland, India, Belarus, Turkey, Norway, Egypt.

Women’s section: Russia, China, Georgia, India, Poland, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, the USA, Vietnam, Egypt.

Russian teams' composition:

Men: Peter Svidler (2756), Ian Nepomniachtchi (2732), Nikita Vitiugov (2720), Maxim Matlakov (2707), Vladimir Fedoseev (2703), average rating – 2724. Head coach is Andrey Filatov.

Women: Kateryna Lagno (2539), Alexandra Kosteniuk (2537), Valentina Gunina (2504), Olga Girya (2480), Aleksandra Goryachkina (2477), average rating – 2508. Head coach is Sergei Rublevsky.
