Saint Petersburg Hosts Bronze Horseman Blitz Tournament

The winner is Peter Svidler.


On May 18, Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library hosted the Bronze Horseman blitz tournament. The event was organized by the Sport Chess Federation of Saint Petersburg and the Presidential Library with the support of Severnoe RSO Ltd., Committee of Physical Culture and Sports of Saint Petersburg, and Italy Group restaurant holding.  

128 chess players, including 13 grandmasters, participated in the blitz tournament. The eight-time Russian champion and five-time Olympic champion Peter Svidler won the event with 9.5 points out of 11. Maxim Matlakov and Aleksey Goganov shared 2-3 places with 8.5 points.

Bronze Horseman is a tournament that continues a tradition of holding big chess events in Saint Petersburg and is dedicated to the victory of the Bronze Horseman team in the Russian championship in Sochi.
