Yuri Eliseev Memorial Opens in Moscow

Alexander Morozevich to comment on the games.

On November 14, the tournament in memory of Yuri Eliseev (1996-2016) was officially opened at the Tigran Petrosian Chess Club in Moscow.

A famous coach, the tournament’s Chief Arbiter Liudmila Belavenets, Yuri Eliseev’s coach Evgeny Reshetnikov, and the tournament’s initiator and participant Daniil Dubov addressed the players and guests.

Liudmila Belavenets shared her memories about Yuri Eliseev and his first steps in chess. «Evgeny Reshetnikov has recently recalled how Yura had asked Santa Claus to buy him chess books for the Happy New Year. It hurts me so much to recall such things. A talented player, who was so deeply in love with chess, passed away too early, at the age of 20. Yuri Eliseev was a very radiant person and I still cannot put up with the fact that I should speak of him in the past tense. I am very happy and grateful to all the people who took part in the organization of this tournament».

Evgeny Reshetnikov told that the coaches of the Tigran Petrosian Chess Club had known Yuri since his early childhood. He noted that the Club had never hosted tournaments of such a high level. «The event is very honorable and challenging for us. The live broadcasting is also a novelty for our club but we will try to do our best to hold the tournament on a worthy level - fitting to Yuri’s talent».

Daniil Dubov thanked all participants and those people who had supported the tournament and declared that Alexander Morozevich would be the commentator.

The tournament will be held in two rounds with the following time control: 90 minutes for the whole game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move one. The playing days are November 15-19 and 21-25. GMs Vladislav Artemiev, Vladimir Fedoseev, Maxim Matlakov, Daniil Dubov, Alexandr Predke, and Mikhail Antipov will play in the first round; Daniil Dubov, Aleksandr Predke, Mikhail Antipov, Dmitry Gordievsky, Klementy Sychev (all from Russia) and Vladislav Kovalev (Belarus) will play in the second round.

FIDE rating will not be calculated and the prizes will be rewarded only for a beautiful play.

Round 1 pairings:

Antipov - Matlakov, Predke - Fedoseev, and Dubov - Artemiev.

The games will be broadcasted on our website.
