Carlsen-Karjakin World Championship Match

The World Chess Championship match is played in New York (USA) on November 11-30, 2016.

The World Champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway) and the Challenger Sergey Karjakin (Russia) are playing 12 games with classical time control - 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for 20 moves, and then 15 minutes plus 30 seconds per move for the rest of the game. If one of the players collects 6.5 points, he wins the match automatically.

The player who has White in the first game will play two Blacks in a row in games 6 and 7.

If the match is drawn after 12 games, a rapid tie-break is scheduled: 4 games of 25+10 time control. If the match is still tied, two additional 5+3 blitz games follow, and, if necessary, four more 2-game blitz matches. Should all these attempts to break the tie fail, the ultimate Armageddon game will decide the winner: White has 5 minutes against 4 (3 second are added after each move starting with the move 61), and Black has a draw odds.

Playing days: November 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18, 20, 21, 23, 24, 26, 28. Rest days: November 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 27, 29.

Tie-break is scheduled on November 30.

Guaranteed prize fund - 1 million Euro.

All games start at 9 pm Moscow time.
