1st FIDE World Cadets Rapid & Blitz Championships Started in Minsk

Children under 8, 10 and 12 years old are taking part.

On May 2-4, the 1st FIDE World Cadets Rapid & Blitz Championships among boys and girls under 8, 10 and 12 years old is taking place in Minsk.

First Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Maxim Ryzhenkov, Deputy Minister of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus Vyacheslav Durnov, and Honorary Vice-President of FIDE, President of the Spanish Chess Federation Javier Ochoa greeted the guests and participants at the opening ceremony. 

626 young chess players from 24 countries are taking part in the event. The majority of rating favorites in all groups are the Russian players. 

The staring lists of U9 groups is headed by Maksim Chertkov, Ivan Bekasov, Savva Vetokhin, Angelina Kozlova, Milana Fominykh, and Anna Shukhman. 

The top seed of U10 category in boys’ tournament is Leonid Lystsov. Ekaterina Kirdyashkina occupies the fourth place of the starting list in the girls’ U10 tournament. 

Volodar Murzin, Andrey Tsvetkov, and Alexey Grachev are in Top-5 of boys’ U12 tournament. Viktoriia Kirchei is second in the same age group. 

4 rounds of the rapid Championship will be played on June 2, the rest 5 rounds are scheduled on June 3. The blitz championship will take place on June 4.
