50th International Chess Festival Starts in Biel

The 50th Biel International Chess Festival is held from July 22 till August 2.

The events starts with the ACCENTUS Rapid Tournament (KO System, two games per match). Participants: David Navara (Czech Republic), Pentala Harikrishna (India), Alexander Morozevich (Russia), Yannick Pelletier (Switzerland), Anatoly Karpov (Russia), Hou Yifan (China), Rafael Vaganian (Armenia), and Vlastimil Hort (Germany). An Armageddon (5'/4') will determine the winner if a match (2x Rapid) ends in a draw.

The line-up for the main Grandmaster Tournament (July 24  - August 2): Pentala Harikrishna (India, 2737), David Navara (Czech Republic, 2737), Etienne Bacrot (France, 2715), Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukraine, 2699), Peter Leko (Hungary, 2678), Alexander Morozevich (Russia, 2675), Hou Yifan (China, 2666), Rafael Vaganian (Armenia, 2562), Nico Georgiadis (Switzerland, 2496), and Noël Studer (Switzerland, 2493).
