80th Tata Steel Chess Tournament Opens in Wijk aan Zee

On January 12, the Opening Ceremony of the 80th Tata Steel Chess Tournament took place in Wijk aan Zee. The drawing of lots had been held the day before. The participants of Tata Steel Masters have got the following starting numbers:
1. Anish Giri, 2. Vladimir Kramnik, 3. Peter Svidler, 4. Magnus Carlsen, 5. Gawain Jones, 6. Viswanathan Anand, 7. Wesley So, 8. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, 9. Maxim Matlakov, 10. Sergey Karjakin, 11. Fabiano Caruana, 12. Baskaran Adhiban, 13. Wei Yi, 14. Hou Yifan.
Round 1 pairings:
Giri - Hou Yifan, Kramnik - Wei Yi, Svidler - Adhiban, Carlsen - Caruana, Jones - Karjakin, Anand - Matlakov, So - Mamedyarov.
The following games of Tata Steel Challengers will be played in Round 1:
Xiong – Bok, Korobov – Bluebaum, Girya – Gordievsky, J. Van Foreest – L. Van Foreest, Tari – Vidit, Krasenkow – L'Ami, Amin – Harika.
Scedule: January 13-16, 18-21, 23, 24, and 26-28. Free days: January 17, 22, and 25. Rounds 5 and 10 of Tata Steel Masters will be played in Hilversum and Groningen respectively.
The games start at 3:30 p.m., rounds 5 and 10 begin at 4 p.m., while the final round starts at 2 p.m. (Moscow time).
