Altai Republic Hosts Stage of Rapid Grand Prix of Russia

The tournament in Altai Palace Casino is dedicated to the memory of Arkady Arkanov.

On October 29, a stage of the Rapid Grand Prix of Russia (with a record for such events prize fund of 1,000,000 roubles) was officially opened in the Siberian Coin gaming zone, Altai Republic. 

The tournament, which is taking place in the Altai Palace Casino, is dedicated to the memory of a famous writer, playwright, stand-up comedian, and holder of the title People's Artist of Russia Arkady Arkanov (1933-2015). Akranov was a real chess lover, a champion of the Central House of Writers in Moscow. He was a frequent guest at many chess events and was on friendly terms with a lot of chess players, in particular with the 8th World Champion Mikhail Tal, and publishers of the magazine 64 – Chess Review Alexander Roshal and Igor Burshtein. Arkady Arkanov was also fond of card games and frequently spent his free time in casinos. 

A Deputy Executive Director of the Russian Chess Federation Alexander Tkachev, Chairperson of Board of Trustees of the Altai Republic Chess Federation Ezher Tatin, President of the Altai Krai Chess Federation Artiom Polomoshnov, and Publisher of the magazine 64 – Chess Review Igor Burshtein greeted participants and guests of the tournament. 

Participants will play 11 rounds according to the Swiss System. Time control: 15 minutes  plus 10 seconds per move increment starting from the first move. Schedule: October 30 - 1-4 rounds (7 p.m. Moscow time), October 31 - 5-8 rounds, and November 1 - 9-11 rounds. The leaders’ games will be broadcasted online on our website.
