Andrey Filatov Awarded with Nikolai Ozerov Medal

For a substantial individual contribution to chess development.

Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin awarded the Chess Federation of Russia's President and Head coach of the Russian men's team Andrey Filatov with the Nikolai Ozerov Medal.
 
The Nikolai Ozerov Medal came into existence in 2005. The award is given for special individual merits and achievements in the field of, and also for promotion of, physical culture and sports. Among others, the lineup of awardees includes such well-known athletes, coaches, and journalists as Yelena Isinbayeva, Irina Viner, Gennady Orlov, and Elena Vaytsekhovskaya. 
 
Andrey Filatov: “I am grateful to the Minister of Sport and look up to this award as assessment of all efforts of the Chess Federation of Russia as a team. Our athletes, not only eminent, but also very young chess players, have in recent years secured many medals to our country. Meanwhile, thanks to the “Chess in Schools” project and the Belaya Ladya tournament, hundreds of thousands of children have taken to our game. Chess popularisation of is CFR's primary goal, and we do our best to address it in the style of Nikolai Ozerov – recklessly and professionally!”
