Andrey Filatov: "We Oppose Such Statements"
CFR President reacts to the Norwegian Chess Federation's call.
President of the Chess Federation of Russia Andrey Filatov has commented on the news about the Norwegian Chess Federation's call to exclude Sergey Karjakin and other chess players supporting the special military operation in Ukraine from international competitions:
– The Norwegian Chess Federation's call to exclude our athletes, including Sergey Karjakin, from participation in international competitions looks very aggressive and goes against both sports principles and democracy. We strongly oppose such statements. We hope that FIDE and other organisers will abide by the slogan Gens Una Sumus and the principle "Sport and politics shouldn't mix".
