The opening ceremony was held on March 7. President of the Russian Chess Federation, Head coach of the Russian men's national chess team Andrey Filatov sent a message of greetings to participants and guests:

Dear participants!

On behalf of the Russian Chess Federation, I am greeting you at the opening ceremony of the all-Russian Championship for Orphanages and Boarding Schools "Ascension 2018" in the resort complex "AquaLoo" of Sochi!

Almost 50 teams from 32 regions of our country will take part in this competition, and this is the best proof of the tournament's significance. The basis for the further development of chess in orphanages and boarding schools of Russia is being established.

We are proud that children caught in difficult straits have found themselves in chess - a sport that actively influences on forming a logical thinking and personality development. I am sure that an inclination to calculate your actions in many moves ahead will help you not only on the chessboard, but also in life.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our friendly hosts "AquaLoo", who are kindly welcoming us exactly one year later and creating all conditions to hold the competition on the highest level possible.

I wish all the participants good luck, high spirits, and unforgettable impressions!

President of the Russian Chess Federation, Head coach of the Russian men's national chess team
Andrey Filatov
