Ascension Tournament Finishes in Sochi

Boarding School №26 of Ryazan Oblast Wins


The third All-Russian Championship for Orphanages and Boarding Schools were taking place in the Resort complex "AquaLoo" (Krasnodar Krai, Sochi, Loo). 48 teams from 32 regions of Russia were participating in the event. The tournament was organized by the Russian Chess Federation and the Northern Crown foundation for social, charitable, and cultural projects with the support of the Building and Construction Group of Companies «Don». 

The tournament has been a part of the charitable project "Chess to Orphanages" for the third year in a row. The project, carried out by the Russian Chess Federation together with the Northern Crown foundation, started in 2014. Chess is being taught in orphanages and boarding-schools, the RCF assigns or instructs teachers and provides the institutions with chess literature and chess sets.  

The Ascension 2018 was won by the team of the boarding school №26 (Ryazan Oblast) - 28.5. The winning team was given the right to form a team of pupils (4 players, at least one of them must be a girl) at the age of 14 years old and younger to take part in the open all-Russian school team competition "Belaya Ladya" (Dagomys, Sochi (Krasnodar Krai), on June 1-9, 2018).

Cossack cadet corps named after O. Gorodovnikov (Kalmykia) took the second place with 23 points. Players of Lyulpansky Centre for orphans and children deprived of parental care (Mari El) became bronze medalists. 

The winners and prize-winners were rewarded by the Head coach of the Russian national teams Sergey Janovsky and Director of the Northern Crown foundation Natalia Yunchenkova.  

Many children got special prizes and gifts for high results in various games and competitions which were included in a vast additional program.
