Boris Vassilyevich Spassky Turns 80!

RCF President Andrey Filatov congratulates the 10th World Champion on the occasion.

The 10th World Champion Boris Vassilyevich Spassky turned 80 on January 30. RCF President and FIDE Vice-President Andrey Filatov sent great chess player a congratulatory letter.

Dear Boris Vassilyevich!

Sincerely congratulate you on the jubilee!

Many generations of chess players learned chess on your games. They learned to never lose heart, take risks experimenting, fight until the end under any circumstances. Three World Championship matches and numerous qualification events steeled your character.

On behalf of all chess fans I want to thank you for founding a chess school in Satka, Chelyabinsk Region, where you share your experience with young talents from Russian province. I look forward to your autobiography book with your own annotations to selected games. Who else can write such a book, if not you – the most versatile and deep chess player, great storyteller, and a journalist by education!

Dear Boris Vassilyevich! I wish you good health, endless energy and optimism, and new creative achievements. Please continue making us happy with your deep insights to life and chess, and your razor-sharp aphorisms!

Andrey Filatov,

Russian Chess Federation President
