Caruana, Kramnik and Mamedyarov Win at the Start of Candidates Tournament
Round 1 happens to be bloody.
On March 10, the first round games of the Candidates Tournament were played in Berlin. The American Fabiano Caruana defeated his compatriot Wesley So, Vladimir Kramnik won the Russian derby against Alexander Grischuk, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan) outplayed Sergey Karjakin (Russia) with black pieces. Levon Aronian (Armenia) and Ding Liren (China) made a draw.
Round 2 pairings:
Grischuk - So, Ding Liren - Caruana, Mamedyarov - Aronian, Kramnik - Karjakin.
