Chess Tournament Begins at BRICS Sports Games

Players from 19 countries are expected to take part in it.


The BRICS Sports Games are taking place in Kazan on June 12-23. The Games are featuring competitions in 27 sports and bringing together 4751 athletes, who are competing in 387 medal events. There are 17 sports venues that are being put into use.

The chess tournament is to take place from 17 till 22 June at the IT Park named after Bashir Rameev. A total of six sets of medals are up for grabs. Participants will compete in rapid and blitz in individual and team events.  

The chess competition is expected to bring together the players from Abkhazia, Bahrein, Belarus, Brazil, China, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, India, Kyrgyzstan, Namibia, Russia, South Ossetia, Syria, Tajikistan, UAE, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela.  

The Russian team is represented by well-known and titled players GMs Vladislav Artemiev, Andrey Esipenko, Kateryna Lagno, and Valentina Gunina.

18 June - rapid (individual)

19 June - blitz (individual)

20 June - rapid (team)

21 June - blitz (team)

The rounds start at 10 AM (Moscow time).
