Anton Shadrin Wins Ekaterinburg Rapid Championship

The tournament was dedicated to the Defender's Day.

The rapid chess championship of Ekaterinburg was an open tournament and took place in the region's main center of chess activities – Intellect Junior Sports School. Almost 60 players took part, including WGM Lyudmila Saunina, IM Oleg Kozlov, and a number of FIDE Masters.

The tournament distance was rather swift – 7 rounds with 10 minutes per game time control.

None of the participants managed to show a perfect score. Anton Shadrin and Alexander Nechaev finished on 6 points, and a better tie-break score gave a victory to Shadrin. Sergey Gilev was awarded a third place, also on tie-break. IM Oleg Kozvol and FM Timur Fakhrutdinov remained 4th and 5th consecutively.

The director of Etude Chess Club Alexander Logachev remain in contention until the last round, however, in the last round he was unable to convert a three extra pawns advantage and did not make it into the prize-winning group.

Fakhrutdinov was strongest among school children. Leya Garifullina, a student in the Intellect Sports School, was awarded a second place in this category, Oleg Radochin received a third prize.

The multiple-time city champion Albina Gileva won the women's section. Leonid Pastukhov was strongest among seniors.
