European Team Championship, Round 4 Results

Open: Russia-Ukraine 3-1, Women: Russia-Georgia 3.5-0.5.

The 4th round of the European Team Championship in Reykjavik, Iceland, took place on Monday, November 16.

Russian men's team defeated one of its strongest opponents, Ukraine, with the 3-1 score. Peter Svidler and Ian Nepomniachtchi won their games, while Alexander Grischuk and Evgeny Tomashevsky made draws. 

France drew with Serbia, England drew with Armenia, and Azerbaijan defeated Turkey 3-1.

After four rounds, Russia is a sole leader with 8 points, Ukraine, France, Serbia, Azerbaijan, Spain, Hungary, and Georgia and two points behind.

In the 5th round Russia faces Azerbaijan.


Russian women's team crushes the rating favorites of the event, national team of Georgia. The score was 3.5-0.5 – wins by Ekaterina Lagno, Valentina Gunina, and Aleksandra Goryachkina, a draw by Alexandra Kosteinuk.

In other key clashes, France defeated Hungary 3-1, Romania defeated Germany 2.5-1.5, Ukraine defeated Italy 3.5-0.5.

After four rounds, our team is leading with 8 points, France and Romania have 7 points each.

In the 5th round Russian women's team will play against France.
