European Club Cup Begins in North Macedonia

The European Chess Club Cups (open and women) will be held in Struga, the Republic of North Macedonia, on 17-25 September. Thirty-eight teams will play in the open event (Swiss system, 7 rounds) and eight in the women's tournament (all-play-all, 7 rounds). 

The rating favourites of the 36th European Chess Club Cup are the local club Alkaloid (Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Dmitry Andreikin, Sam Shankland, Yuriy Kryvoruchko, Alexandr Predke, Ernesto Inarkiev, and Filip Pancevski), the Russian Mednyi Vsadnik (Peter Svidler, Maxim Matlakov, Vladimir Fedoseev, Andrey Esipenko, Kirill Alekseenko, Konstantin Sakaev, Pavel Ponkratov, and Aleksey Goganov), Novibor of the Czech Republic (Harikrishna Pentala, David Navara, Mateusz Bartel, Markus Ragger, David Anton Guijarro, Radoslaw Wojtaszek, Krishnan Sasikiran, and Roman Muzik), and another Russian club KPRF (Alexander Grischuk, Vladimir Malakhov, Aleksey Dreev, Sergei Rublevsky, Evgeny Alekseev, Vadim Zvjaginsev, Klementy Sychev, and Alexei Kornev).

The world champion Magnus Carlsen will play on Board 1 for the Norwegian Offerspill Chess Club.

The starting list of the 25th European Women's Chess Club Cup is headed by the Monte-Carlo  team from Monaco (Aleksandra Goryachkina, Elisabeth Paehtz, Pia Cramling, Almira Skripchenko, and Nana Dzagnidze). Monte-Carlo is followed by the Ukrainian GRECO - Kyiv Chess Federation (Anna and Mariya Muzychuk, Zhansaya Amdumalik, Iulija Osmak, and Nataliya Buksa) and the Russian South Ural (Dinara Saduakassova, Valentina Gunina, Olga Badelka, Aleksandra Maltsevskaya, and Elizaveta Solozhenkina).

The match days are 18-24 September. The rounds will start at 4 PM Moscow time.
