European Women's Championship Starts in Montenegro

139 players will participate.

The 23rd European Women's Championship will be held in Petrovac, Montenegro, on 17-30 March. The event has brought together one hundred thirty-nine players, including the Russians Valentina Gunina, Olga Badelka, Leya Garifullina, Alina Bivol, Evgenija Ovod, Yana Zhapova, Alexandra Zherebtsova, Alena Skvorstova, and Oksana Goriachkina. The Russian participants will play under the FIDE flag. 

The starting list is headed by Bella Khotenashvili (2491, Georgia), Valentina Gunina (2478), Gunay Mammadzada (2472, Azerbaijan), Marsel Efroimski (2451, Israel), Yuliia Osmak (2445, Ukraine), Lela Javakhishvili (2443, Georgia), Irina Bulmaga (2438, Romania), Antoaneta Stefanova (2433, Bulgaria), and other strong players. 

The tournament is an 11-round Swiss event. The 23rd European Women’s Championship implies qualification for the next FIDE Women’s World Cup. According to the FIDE regulations and the decision of the ECU Board, nine players will qualify. 

The match days are 18-23 and 25-29 March. The rounds will begin at 5 PM Moscow time.
