First Games of FIDE World Chess Grand Prix Leg Played in Hamburg

The Russian Peter Svidler started with a win.


The first games of Round 1 of the FIDE World Chess Grand Prix leg were played in Hamburg on November 5.

Peter Svidler defeated Pentala Harikrishna, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave bested Wei Yi, Veselin Topalov outplayed Hikaru Nakamura, while Ian Nepomniachtchi lost to Jan-Krzysztof Duda. The games Navara - Vitiugov, Wojtaszek - Grischuk, Radjabov - Dubov, and Jakovenko - Yu Yangyi were drawn. 



The second games with the opposite colours will be played on November 6. If the score remains equal, the winner of the match will be determined on tie-break.
