Alexander Grischuk Ties with Carlsen in Stavanger

Veselin Topalov wins the Norwegian supertournament.

The first event of the Grand Chess Tour, which gathered most highest rated players on the world, brought some surprising results. It was dominated by former World Champions Veselin Topalov, who won the event outright with 6.5 points in 9 games, and Vishy Anand, who tied for the second with 6 points. Hikaru Nakamura also collected 6 points. 

World Champion Magnus Carlsen had a shocking performance and settled for sharing 7th-8th places with the only Russian player in the Tour, Alexander Grischuk. Both grandmasters scored just 3.5 points. 

Winner of each Grand Tour event receives $75,000, and additional $75,00 are given to the winner of the series.
