Hikaru Nakamura Becomes FIDE World Fischer Random Champion

The 2022 FIDE World Fischer Random Championship finished in Reykjavik. 

The Final between Hikaru Nakamura and Ian Nepomniachtchi started with the American grandmaster's win and then a draw. The Russian player evened the score in the third game, and after a draw in the fourth encounter, the continued in Armageddon. Nakamura, who had the white pieces, won the game to become the FIDE World Fischer Random Champion.

Magnus Carlsen came third: the World Champion beat Nodirbek Abdusattorov 3-1. Vladimir Fedoseev defeated Wesley So with the same score in the match for the 5th place. Matthias Bluebaum bested Hjorvar Steinn Gretarsson 3-1.

The total prize fund is 400,000 US dollars.
