Juniors Outplay Dvoretsky's Disciples in Classical Part of Mark Dvoretsky Memorial

A double-round robin rapid is on the agenda.


A team tournament dedicated to the memory of the merited USSR chess coach Mark Dvoretsky (1947-2016) is in full swing in the Central Chess Club in Moscow. Dvoretsky's Disciples Team (A. Dreev, V. Zvjaginsev, A. Riazantsev, and I. Popov) are competing against Junior Team of Russia (A. Nesterov, V. Murzin, R. Makarian, and A. Grebnev).

The tournament is held to the FIDE regulations in two disciplines: an unrated classical event and a rated rapid one scheduled on December 10-13 and 14-15 accordingly. Classical chess: an 8-round Swiss system competition with a pre-arranged drawing of lots. Time format: 45 minutes with a 15-second increment given to each player per move beginning with move one. Rapid chess: an 8-round Swiss system competition with a pre-arranged drawing of lots. Time format: 15 minutes with a 10-second increment given to each player per move beginning with move one. 

Tuesday, December 13, saw classical games of the final two rounds. 

Round 7 results:

Dreev – Murzin, 0-1
Riazantsev – Makarian, 1-0
Nesterov – Popov, 1-0
Grebnev – Zvjaginsev, 0-1;

Round 8 results:

Grebnev – Dreev, Draw
Murzin – Riazantsev, Draw
Popov – Makarian, 1-0
Zvjaginsev – Nesterov, Draw.

Thus, the fourth game day ended 4.5-3.5 in Dvoretsky's Disciples favour, but the overall score in classical chess is 16.5-15.5 in favour of Junior Team of Russia. 

Wednesday, December 14, gives start to the second half of the competition, which is a double-round rapid tournament.
