Roman Kezin Wins Novosibirsk Region Governor Cup

The region's strongest junior players participated in the event.

The Novosibirsk Region Governor Cup, a junior tournament for high school and university students, was organized as a part of the International Technology Forum Technoprom 2016. The event was supported by RATM Holding, and gathered 24 players.

Grandmaster Pavel Maletin, President of Novosibirsk Regional Chess Federation, said that the tournament attracted the strongest young players of the region, many of whom had success in national level competitions.

“Prior to the start of the tournament, I played a couple of training games with Roman Kezin, student of NGU”, continues Mr Maletin. “We played without any handicap, and exchanged wins.”

The training paid off, as Roman Kezin proceeded to win the Governor Cup.

FM Vladimir Antonenko finished second, NM Semyon Khanin took third place.

In the near future Pavel Maletin intends to form a chess team, gathering the strongest students of the region, in order to participate in the Russian Club Championship.
