London to Host FIDE World Chess Championship Match 2018

FIDE and World Chess inform that the World Chess Championship Match will take place in London, on November 9-28, 2018. The 12-game Match will see current World Chess Champion, Norway’s Magnus Carlsen, defend his title against a challenger to be decided at the forthcoming FIDE Candidates Tournament in March 2018.  

The official ceremony, during which the host city an d the dates were announced,was attended by the reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen, FIDE Deputy President Georgios Makropoulos, CEO of World Chess Ilya Merenzon, CEO of PhosAgro, member of the Russian Chess Federation’s Board of Trustees Andrey Guryev, and editor of the London Evening Standard George Osborne. 

World Chess also reported that they had signed a long-term contract with PhosAgro, the leading chemical company of Russia. The Championship cycle is being supported by such leading brands as Kaspersky Lab as World Chess and FIDE Official Cybersecurity Partner; S.T. Dupont as Official Writing Instrument; and Isklar as Official Water.

The Championship Match will have a prize fund of EUR 1,000,000.
