Magnus Carlsen Wins Tata Steel Chess in Wijk aan Zee

On January 28, the Tata Steel Chess super tournament finished in Wijk aan Zee.   

In the Masters tournament, Vladimir Kramnik defeated Baskaran Adhiban, while Wesley So outplayed Hou Yifan. The games Mamedyarov - Anand, Matlakov - Jones, Karjakin - Carlsen, Caruana - Svidler, and Wei Yi - Giri were drawn. 

Magnus Carlsen and Anish Giri both scored 9 points out of 13 and had to determine the winner of the tournament in a play-off match. Having defeated Giri 1.5-0,5, the World Champion became the 6-time winner of Tata Steel Chess.

Vladimir Kramnik and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov are half a point behind the winner and the runner-up. Thanks to the superior tie-break, Kramnik is a bronze medalist.

5-6.  Viswanathan Anand, Wesley So - 8
7. Sergey Karjakin - 7.5

10-12. Gawain Jones, Maxim Matlakov, Fabiano Caruana - 5
13. Baskaran Adhiban - 3.5 
14. Hou Yifan - 2.5.

Santosh Vidit won Tata Steel Challengers (9/13) to qualify for the Masters event next year. Anton Korobov is half a point behind. Jeffery Xiong (3rd place), Jorden van Foreest (4th place), and Dmitry Gordievsky (5th place) scored 7.5 points each.
