Maksim Chigaev Leads Arkanov Memorial After 8 Rounds

Bocharov and Sorokin are half a point behind.

A stage of the Rapid Grand Prix of Russia, dedicated to the memory of a famous writer, playwright, stand-up comedian, and TV presenter Arkady Arkanov, is going on in the Altai Palace Casino (the Siberian Coin gaming zone, Altai Republic). 40 players, including 6 GMs and 16 IMs, are taking part in the Swiss tournament with 11 rounds. The prize fund is 1,000,000 roubles. 

Maksim Chigaev (Kemerovo Oblast) took the sole lead with 6.5 points after 8 rounds. Dmitry Bocharov (Novosibirsk Oblast) and Aleksey Sorokin (Altai Krai) are trailing by half a point. 

Round 9 parings

On October 31, a press conference, dedicated to the development of chess in the Altai Republic, took place in Gorno-Altaysk. Chairperson of Physical Culture and Sports Committee of the Altai Republic Zauri Kazapkayev, Deputy Executive Director of the Russian Chess Federation Alexander Tkachev, Chairperson of Board of Trustees of the Altai Republic Chess Federation Ezher Tatin, President of the Siberian Federal District Chess Federation Maxim Ivakhin, and President of the Altai Republic Chess Federation Arzhan Itashev delivered their speeches to journalists, young players, their parents, and coaches. After the press conference, a twofold champion of the Siberian Federal District GM Vladimir Nevostrujev gave a simultaneous exhibition to young chess players.
