Marina Nechaeva Leads Russian Women’s Higher League
7 players head the open tournament before the last round.
In round 8 of the open section of the Russian Championships Higher League, the leaders’ games Volkov-Dubov and Romanov-Sjugirov were drawn. It allowed Maxim Matlakov, Evgeniy Najer, and Andrei Belozerov, who have outplayed Grigoriy Oparin, Pavel Ponkratov, Vadim Zvjaginsev respectively, to catch up with them. In the decisive round the leaders will struggle to qualify to the Superfinal: Matlakov-Volkov, Dubov-Belozerov, Najer-Romanov, Sjugirov-Dreev. Alexey Dreev is half a point behind.
In the women’s tournament, Marina Nechaeva, who defeated Ekaterina Ubiennykh, is in the sole lead. The first 5 places will be determined in the following encounters: Vasilevich (5.5) - Nechaeva (6.5), Kashlinskaya (6) - Ovod (5.5), Belenkaya (5.5) - Girya (5.5), and Suvalova (5.5) - Dordzhieva (5.5).
