Moscow to Host "We Remember" Festival

It is dedicated to the memory of the outstanding players and coaches of Russia.


On 10-15 December, the Central Chess Club named after Mikhail Botvinnik is hosting a team tournament dedicated to the memory of the merited USSR chess coach Mark Dvoretsky (1947-2016). Grandmasters Aleksey Dreev, Vadim Zvjaginsev, Alexander Riazantsev, and Ivan Popov fly the banners for the M. Dvoretsky's Disciples team. Their opponents are members of the Junior Team of Russia, consisting of GM Arseniy Nesterov and IMs Volodar Murzin, Rudik Makarian, and Aleksey Grebnev. 
 
The tournament is held to the FIDE regulations in two disciplines: an unrated classical event and a rated rapid one scheduled on December 10-13 and 14-15 accordingly. Classical chess: an 8-round Swiss system competition with a pre-arranged drawing of lots. Time control: 45 minutes with a 15-second increment given to each player per move beginning with move one. Rapid chess: an 8-round Swiss system competition with a pre-arranged drawing of lots. Time control: 15 minutes with a 10-second increment given to each player per move beginning with move one.

The tournament opening and the drawing of lots are to take place on Saturday, December 10 at 14.30 PM. Round 1 begins at 15.00 PM. 

Friday, December 16, has three blitz tournaments  scheduled in the Central Chess Club:

1) Blitz Grand Prix Final of Russia dedicated to the memory of Yuri Averbakh (1922-2022). A preliminary list of participants features Alexander Grischuk, Sergei Rublevsky, Evgeny Alekseev, Boris Grachev, and Nikita Afanasiev.

2) Women’s Blitz Grand Prix Final of Russia dedicated to the memory of Yuri Dokhoian (1964-2021). A preliminary list of players include Kateryna Lagno, Aleksandra Goryachkina, Valentina Gunina, Polina Shuvalova, and Natalija Pogonina.

3) Senior blitz tournament held in memory of Evgeny Sveshnikov (1950-2021). Among the participants are friends and colleagues of Evgeny Ellinovich: Yuri Balashov, Galina Strutinskaia, SergeySmagin, Elena Fatalibekova, and Evgenij Kalegin.

Likewise, there are yet another two competitions that are taking place in Yaroslavl on December 1-8 as part of the "We Remember" festival:

1) The Russian Youth Cup Final among boys under 9, 11, 13, and 15 years old dedicated to the memory of Alexander Nikitin (1935-2022);

2) The Russian Youth Cup Final among girls under 9, 11, 13, and 15 years old held in memory of Liudmila Belavenets (1940-2021).
