Nutcracker: Princes Defeat Kings for the First Time in Tournament’s History

Queens lose to Princesses in rapid but win the match. 

On December 24, a traditional Christmas event – Nutcracker Generation Tournament – finished in the Central Chess Club in Moscow. The event consisted of one round of classical chess, where games were worth 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw, and two rounds of rapid chess with a usual scoring (1 point for a win and 0.5 point for a draw). 

In the second round of the rapid part, Kings lost to Princes 7.5-8.5. The score in rapid is 18.5-13.5 in favor of Princes, and the overall score is 32.5-31.5 in favor of the younger generation.

Shirov – Yuffa 1/2, Gelfand – Esipenko 1/2, Artemiev – Mamedyarov 1-0, Oparin – Rublevsky 1-0

Round 10:

Oparin - Shirov 1/2, Yuffa - Gelfand 1/2, Mamedyarov - Esipenko 1-0, Rublevsky - Artemiev 0-1

Round 11:

Shirov - Artemiev 1/2, Gelfand - Oparin 1/2, Yuffa - Mamedyarov 1/2, Esipenko - Rublevsky 1-0

Kings: Shakhriyar Mamedyarov - 11 (7 + 4), Alexei Shirov - 10 (5 + 5), Boris Gelfand - 7.5 (5 + 2.5), Sergei Rublevsky - 3 (1 + 2). 

Princes: Vladislav Artemiev - 11.5 (5 + 6.5), Grigoriy Oparin - 7,5 (3 + 4.5), Andrey Esipenko - 7.5 (4 + 3.5), Daniil Yuffa 6 (2 + 4).



Princesses won the rapid match against Queens 17.5-14.5, but the overall score is 33.5-30.5 in favor of Queens.
