Preliminary Stage of Legends of Chess Completed

Carlsen, Nepomniachtchi, Giri and Svidler made it to the semi-finals.

The final ninth round of the preliminary stage of the Chess24 Legends of Chess super tournament was played on July 29. 

Magnus Carlsen outplayed Vladimir Kramnik 3-1 (the match score is 3-0). Ian Nepomniachtchi lost to Boris Gelfand 2-3 (1-3) since the Israeli won the "sudden death" game as Black. Anish Giri defeated Peter Svidler 2.5-1.5 (3-0), and Ding Liren beat Peter Leko with the same score. Viswanathan Anand and Vassily Ivanchuk made all draws, including the Armageddon game, and the Ukrainian was declared the winner as he'd had the black pieces (the match score is 2-1).

The play-off stage will begin on July 31.
