Reykjavik Hosts European Individual Championship

The European Individual Championship is held in the capital of Iceland from the 25th of August (arrival) until the 6th of September (departure). The tournament is a qualifying event for the FIDE World Cup 2023 with 23 qualification spots. 

One hundred eighty players from 36 countries will take part in the Championship. Rating favourite is the English grandmaster Gawain Jones (2684). Russia is represented by GMs Alexey Sarana (2643), David Paravyan (2631), Mikhail Antipov (2607), Anton Demchenko (2597), Evgeny Romanov (2594), and WGM Aleksandra Maltsevskaya (2409).

The Championship is played according to the Swiss system of 11 rounds. The playing time is 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one. 

The match days: August 26 - September 5. The games start at 6 PM (Moscow time); the final 11th round will begin at 4 PM (Moscow time).
