Richard Rapport and Hikaru Nakamura Qualify for FIDE Candidates 2022

A group stage of the final leg of the FIDE Grand Prix is concluding in Berlin. After the final round's results, it became known that Hikaru Nakamura and Richard Rapport had qualified for the Candidates Tournament 2022.

Richard Rapport scored 20 Grand Prix points (7 points in the first leg for reaching semis + 13 points in the second for winning the event), while Hikaru has secured at least the same number (13 points in the first leg for winning the event + at least 7 points in the third leg for advancing into semis). No other player has even a theoretical to catch up with them in the FIDE Grand Prix standings.

The round results, standings, and pairings are as follows:

Pool A:

Oparin - Aronian 1-0, Esipenko - Nakamura 0-1
1. Hikaru Nakamura - 4, 2. Grigoriy Oparin - 3.5, 4. Levon Aronian - 3, 4. Andrey Esipenko - 1.5

Pool B:

Mamedyarov - Dubov 1/2-1/2, Keymer - Dominguez 1-0
1-2. Vincent Keymer, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov - 3.5, 3. Leinier Dominguez - 3, 4. Daniil Dubov - 2

Pool C:

Pool D:

A tie-break will be played on the 29th of March.
