Russian Championships Superfinals Officially Opened in Moscow

The drawing of lots was held.


The Superfinals of the 73rd Russian championship and the 70th Russian women's championship were opened in the Central Chess Club in Moscow on December 4. The drawing of lots was held, and the participants got the following starting numbers:  

Men:

At the opening ceremony, Mark Glukhovsky, CFR Executive Director, told about the health security measures taken at the tournament. Chief Arbiter Alexander Tkachev reminded the key points from the Regulations. 

The events are 11-round all-play-all tournaments. Time control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting for the first. 

The match days are December 5-10 and 12-16. December 11 is a rest day. All rounds begin at 3 PM (Moscow time).

In case of a tie for the 1st place by two or more participants, an additional rapid competition is played to determine the winner. 

Total prize fund is 10 million rubles.

The medalists well be given tickets to the legendary CHESS musical. 

The tournament is a part of the Chess in Museums programme, which has been carried out by the Chess Federation of Russia and the Elena and Gennady Foundation since 2012.   

The organisers are the Chess Federation of Russia and the Timchenko Foundation. The tournament is supported by the Russian Ministry of Sports. The general sponsor of the Russian national teams is the Federal Grid Company Unified Energy System (FGC UES). The CFR general partner is PhosAgro.
