Russian Chess Federation and Timchenko Foundation Announce Competition to Join Chess in Schools Project

The contest starts on June 6.

As part of their joint project Chess in Schools, the Russian Chess Federation and the Charitable Foundation of Elena and Gennady Timchenko have announced a competition to join the project in the 2017-2018 school year. 

The contest starts on June 6, 2017. The competition is open to regional chess federations. The application form is available on the websites of the RCF and the Timchenko Foundation. The deadline for entries is 21 August 2017, 6 p.m. Moscow time. 

The Chess in Schools projest started in Pskov Oblast in 2014. Later the project was joined by Zabaykalsky Krai. The project is aimed at development of chess education at schools. Since its start, more than 350 pedadogues have received training and now are teaching chess at schools; 496 educational institutions have been supplied with chess equipment, more than 550 schools - with learning kits, including the Chess School tutorial, published by the RCF with support from the Timchenko Foundation. Contests of the best chess education at schools are realized in the regions, where the best schools are rewarded with laptops and demontration boards, chess pedagogues and directors are given money rewards.  

For the second year in a row, the final competition of Chess in Schools project was held in Dagomys in parallel with Belaya Ladya final tournament. The tournament is realized by the Russian Chess Federation together with Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation. 6 teams from Pskov Oblast, Novosibirsk Oblast, Zabaykalsky Krai, Altai Krai, Krasnodar Krai, and Ingushetia took part in it. These teams had won the contest of the best chess education as part of the Chess in Schools project. 

Results: 1 place - Educational Centre Pskov Pedagogical College - 18 points out of 20, 2. Novosibirsk Sports School № 195 - 14, 3. Krasnodar Lyceum № 48 named after A. Suvorov - 12.

Throughout the year, regional federations and local departments of education have actively supported the project, and, for this reason, Altai Krai, Krasnodar Krai, Novosibirsk Oblast, and Ingushetia will continue to develop school chess as part of the Chess in Schools project.
