Russian Chess Players Won Two Gold Medals at 17th IPCA World Individual Championship

The tournament finished in Slovakia.

The representatives of the Russian national team of chess players with locomotor disabilities won two gold medals at 17th IPCA World Individual Championship. The tournament took place in Ruzomberok, Slovakia. The event was a 9-round Swiss. 40 sportsmen from 10 countries took part in the event. 

Maria Dorozhkina (Altai Krai) became second in the competition among wheelchair-using women. In the open section of the same category, Andrey Tersintsev (Penza Oblast) won the silver medal as well, while Sergei Tsapalin (Perm Krai) came third. 

Maria Dorozhkina won the event among girls under 18 years old. Anna Sergeeva (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug) came second, Viktoria Krasivskaya (Tambov Oblast) is third. Ilya Lepilin (Ryazan Oblast) became the winner of the juniors’ competition, while Mikhail Alekseev (Moscow) took the second place. 

Galina Melnik (Moscow Oblast) won silver in the women’a tournament. Maria Dorozhkina became the bronze medalist. 

The Indian Kutwal Shashikant became the IPCA World Champion with 7.5 points scored. Andrei Gurbanov (Israel, 7.5 points) is second, Nikolai Mukha (Ukraine, 6.5 points) is third.
