Russian Teams Start World Chess Olympiad With Victories

On October 24, the first round of the 43rd World Chess Olympiad was played in Batumi. 

In the open event, the Russian national team defeated Uganda 4-0. Sergei Karjakin, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Nikita Vitiugov, and Dmitry Jakovenko won their games. 

In round 2, the Russian team will play with Ireland.

The Russian women's team won the the match against Costa Rica 3.5-0.5. Valentina Gunina, Natalija Pogonina, and Olga Girya defeated their rivals, while Aleksandra Goryachkina made a draw. 

Uzbekistan will be the Russian team's opponent in round 2.
