Russian Women's Team Wins against Georgia in Batumi

Russian men defeated Turkey.


The fourth round of the European Team Championships was played in Batumi on October 27. 

The Russian women's team won the key match against one of their main rivals Georgia 2.5-1.5 (Valentina Gunina won, Aleksandra Goryachkina, Kateryna Lagno and Olga Girya made draws) to take the sole lead with 8 match points. Hungary is 1 point behind, while Georgia, Italy, Armenia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Serbia are trailing by 2 points.

Pairings of the fifth round in the leading group are as follows: Russia - Hungary, Georgia - Armenia, Serbia - Ukraine, and Italy - Azerbaijan.  



In the open section, the Russian chess players crushed Team Turkey 3.5-0.5 (Dmitry Andreikin, Nikita Vitiugov, and Daniil Dubov won, while Maxim Matlakov made a draw).

Teams Armenia, Ukraine, and the Netherlands are leading the race with 6 match points. In other matches Armenia drew with Ukraine, while England beat the Netherlands 2.5-1.5 Thus, our team has joined the leaders: now teams Armenia, Ukraine, Russia, and England have got 7 points out of 8.

Round 5 pairings in the leading group are Russia - Armenia and Ukraine - England.
