Shakhriyar Mamedyarov Wins Vugar Gashimov Memorial
Vladimir Kramnik finished second.
In the concluding round of the Vugar Gashimov Memorial in Shamkir, Vladimir Kramnik defeated Pavel Eljanov. All other games ended in draws. Thus, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan) collected 5.5 points in 9 games and repeated his success of the previous year. Three players tied for second place – Vladimir Kramnik (Russia), Wesley So (USA), and Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria). Kramnik's tie-break score was superior, therefore the Russian finished on second place.
