Southern Ural Teams Triumph at Russian Rapid Championships

The tournaments are completed in Sochi.


The Russian Rapid Team Championships finished in the Zhemchuzhina Grand Hotel in Sochi on 19 October. There were four main players and one reserve in each team. Both events were the 9-round Swiss tournaments. 

The Southern Ural-1 team (Chelyabinsk Oblast) won the open competition (37 teams), having scored 15 match points out of 18 (23.5 board points. The team was represented by GMs Pavel Ponkratov, Anton Shomoev, Igor Lysyj, and IM Yaroslav Remizov. The Moscow Chess Team is second with 13 (23) points, while Ladya (Tatarstan) is in third place with 13 (21) points.   


The women's competition (17 teams) was also won by the Southern Ural-1 (Chelyabinsk Oblast) featuring IM Polina Shuvalova, GM Valentina Gunina, IM Olga Badelka, IM Daria Charochkina, and WGM Elizaveta Solozhenkina. The champions scored 15 match points (36.5 board points). Yugra won silver with 24 (25.5) points, and ShSM (Moscow) is in third place with 14 (24) points).
