Tata Steel Chess India: Viswanathan Anand Wins Blitz

He defeats Hikaru Nakamura on tie-break.


Tata Steel Chess India, the first super tournament in the history of the motherland of chess, finished in Kolkata. As we reported before, Hikaru Nakamura had taken the lead after the first half of the blitz tournament. However, the Americal a little bit lost momentum on the second day, while the "host" Vishy Anand attained a hurricane velocity.

1-2. Hikaru Nakamura (USA), Viswanathan Anand (India) - 12.5/18, 3. Levon Aronian (Armenia) - 12, 4. Wesley So (USA) - 10, 5-7. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan), Santosh Gujrathi Vidit, Pentala Harikrishna (both from India) - 8, 8. Sergey Karjakin (Russia) - 7.5, 9. Surya Shekhar Ganguly - 6, 10. R. Praggnanandhaa (both from India) - 5.5.

Anand defeat Nakamura 1.5-0.5 on tie-break to become the winner of the competition.
