Team CFR Leads Pool A at FIDE World Women's Championship

The FIDE World Women's Team Championship started in Sitges, Spain. The twelve teams were divided into two pools of approximately equal strength. Four top teams from each pool (round-robin event of five rounds) qualify to the knockout play-off. 

Team CFR will compete in Pool A with France, Azerbaijan, India, Armenia, and Spain.

Two rounds were played on the first match day. The Russians crushed Spain 4-0 (Alexandra Kosteniuk, Kateryna Lagno, Polina Shuvalova, and Alina Kashlinskaya won their games) and then beat France 3.5-0.5 (the winners are Kateryna Lagno, Polina Polina Shuvalova, and Alina Kashlinskaya, while Aleksandra Goryachkina drew her game against Marie Sebag).

Standings after Round 2:

1. CFR - 4 match points (7.5 board points)
2-3. India, Armenia - 3 (4.5)
4. Azerbaijan - 2 (4)
5. France - 0 (2)
6. Spain - 0 (1,5). 

Team CFR will face Azerbaijan in the third round and India in the fourth. Both matches will be played on the 28th of September.
