Team Russia 1 Wins Silver at FIDE Online Olympiad for People with Disabilities

As the world celebrates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the first-ever Online Chess Olympiad for players with disabilities came to an end with the victory of Poland, over a field of 60 teams from 44 countries. Russia was represented by three teams.

The final between Poland and Russia was a thrilling affair, since the Russian team won the first round by 2.5-1.5. However, the Polish players bounced back on the second day of the final and won 3-1. According to the Regulations, Poland 1 became the winner of the tournament thanks to their superior tiebreak (higher number of board points).

The Russian team (FM Stanislav Babarykin, IM Andrei Obodchuk, FM Evgeniy Suslov, WIM Irina Kaydanovich, Alexey Smirnov, WFM Svetlana Gerasimova, and Denis Palin, captain - Dmitry Andreev) won silver medals.

In a duel for third place, Ukraine 3 beat Poland 3 again this time by a score of 3-1 and took bronze.
