Third FIDE Grang Prix Leg Starts in Geneva

Russia is represented by 6 grandmasters.

The third FIDE Grang Prix leg is taking place in Geneva from July 6 till July 15. 18 grandmasters will play 9 rounds according to the Swiss system. Time control is 100 minutes for the first 40 moves, then 50 minutes for the following 20 moves, and finally 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1. The prize fund is 130,000 EUR.

Russia is represented by Alexander Grischuk (2761), Peter Svidler (2749), Ian Nepomniachtchi (2742), Ernesto Inarkiev (2707), Dmitry Jakovenko(2702), and Alexander Riazantsev (2654). Other participants are Levon Aronian (2809, Armenia) Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (2800), Teimour Radjabov (2724; both - Azerbaijan), Anish Giri (2775, Netherlands), Pavel Eljanov (2739, Ukraine), Pentala Harikrishna (2737, India), Michael Adams (2736, England), Li Chao (2735), Hou Yifan (2666, both - China), Boris Gelfand (2728, Israel), Richard Rapport (2694, Hungary), and Saleh Salem (2638, UAE). 

Playing days: July 6-10 and July 12-15. July 11 is a free day. The rounds start at 3 P.M. (Moscow time).

Round 1 pairings

Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan) is leading after two tournaments of the FIDE Grand Prix series - 280 ranking points. Ding Liren (China) has gained 240 points. Both Alexander Grischuk (Russia) and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France) have 211,4 points. Two best players of the FIDE Grand Prix Series 2017 qualify to the Candidates Tournament 2018.
