Third FIDE World Chess Grand Prix Leg to Open in Hamburg on November 4

Russia is represented by six players.


The third leg of the FIDE World Chess Grand Prix Series 2019 will take place in Hamburg on November 4-17. 16 players will determine the winner in a knockout event. 

Participants: 

Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (2777, France), Ian Nepomniachtchi (2773, Russia), Teimour Radjabov (2767, Azerbaijan), Alexander Grischuk (2764, Russia), Yu Yangyi (2753, China), Nikita Vitiugov (2751, Russia), Jan-Krzysztof Duda (2748, Poland), Hikaru Nakamura (2741, USA), Veselin Topalov (2736, Bulgaria), Pentala Harikrishna (2731, India), Radoslaw Wojtaszek (2728, Poland), Wei Yi (2724, China), Peter Svidler (2719, Russia), David Navara (2703, Czech Republic), Dmitry Jakovenko (2691, Russia), and Daniil Dubov (2676, Russia). 

The opening ceremony will be held on November 4.

The match days: November 5-13 and 15-17. November 14 is a rest day. The games will start at 5 p.m. (Moscow time). 

The venue is the Kehrwieder Theater. 

It is to be reminded that current leaders of the GP Series are Alexander Grischuk (Russia) and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan) with 10 points. Ian Nepomniachtchi (Russia) is 1 point behind, while Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France) is trailing by 2 points. 

Two participants with the best results in the Series will get spots in the next year’s Candidates Tournament.
