Valentina Gunina Maintains Leadership at Cairns Cup

In the penultimate eighth round of the 2019 Cairns Cup in Saint Louis, Marie Sebag (France) defeated Irina Krush (USA), while the games Dronavalli (India) - Khotenashvili (Georgia), Dzagnidze (Georgia) - Kosteniuk (Russia), Gunina (Russia) - Abdumalik (Kazakhstan), Paehtz (Germany) - Zatonskikh (USA) were drawn.
Standings after Round 8:
1. Valentina Gunina - 6.6
2. Alexandra Kosteniuk - 6
3-4. Irina Krush, Dronavalli Harika - 4.5
5. Nana Dzagnidze - 4
6. Zhansaya Abdumalik - 3.5

In the final 9th round, the leaders will face each other: Alexandra Kotsneiuk will have the white pieces against Valentina Gunina. Other games are as follows: Zatonskikh - Sebag, Abdumalik - Paehtz, Khotenashvili - Dzagnidze, and Krush - Dronavalli.
