Valery Rusov Wins Rapid Championship of Pskov Region
The event gathered 80 players.
Valery Rusov, candidate master from Ostrov, took the lead after the first day, and despite losing to the defending champion Odissey Suleymanyants (Puskinskie Gory) on the second day, held his position and celebrated a victory in the championship. FIDE Master Grigoriy Malyshev from Velikie Luki took second place, also receiving the junior prize. Candidate master Grigoriy Sharankov from Pskov finished third.
WFM Alina Pavlova (Pskov) was strongest among women, Gennady Egorov (Novorzhevsky District) won the senior prize.
Valery Rusov will represent Pskov at the 2017 Rapid Championship of North-Western Federal District and will receive financial support from the regional budget.
