Maxim Vavulin and Kateryna Lagno Qualified for the Moscow Blitz Championship

The last semifinals were played at the Russian State Social University.

Russian State Social University hosted semifinals to the Moscow Blitz Championship on Saturday, August 29. There were four tournaments: open, women, open seniors, and women seniors.

International master Maxim Vavulin prevailed in the open semifinal with 8.5 out of 11. Four players were half a point behind: grandmasters Alexandra Kosteniuk and Kateryna Lagno, international master David Paravyan, and the highest-rated participant grandmaster Sergey Grigoriants. Lagno had the best tie-break and she advanced to the main final. 

WGM Evgenia Chasovnikova won the women's event with 8/11. Three players with 7.5 points also qualified for the final event – WFM Karina Ivanova, WIM Svetlana Bezgodova, and WIM Irina Vasilevich.

Grandmaster Arkady Vul won the open seniors semifinal with 8.5/11. Lyudmila Frantsuzova won the women's section with 6/7.

The Moscow Blitz Championship finals will be played on September 6 in the Gorbushkin Dvor Mall.
